Regulations for operating drones

Everything you need to know to be able to fly drones.

Where, when and at what heights am I allowed to fly?

Would you like to know more about the regulations related to operate a drone? All limitations and preconditions has been set out in one clear overview.

Rules for flying a drone

If you're operating a drone, whether it's for private use, or for commercial use, you must take into account the rules related to airspace. These rules have been set out so that everyone can use airspace safely. It ensures, for example, that a drone can't collide with an airplane. In addition to accidents that can take place in airspace, accidents can also occur on ground, for example if a drone hits another person. Of course, the Dutch government wants to avoid these kinds of accidents. The rules and regulations for operating drones have been drawn up for these reasons.

Requirements for drones, set by the government

If you are flying a drone for private use, you must comply with the regulations for flight models. If you use drones for commercial purposes, then the rules and authorisations relevant to the certificate you've obtained in order to be allowed to fly commercial drones apply. What rules should you follow exactly, such as: where am I allowed to operate the drone, what is the maximum weight the drone may have, and at what height(s) am I allowed to operate a drone? These can be found in the table below along with the regulations for operating drones, for each applicable certificate/permit/license.
